“This image started from some reference images I took of some nice summertime cumulus clouds. I’m always looking at beautiful cloudy skies and imagining myself on a moon of some distant gas giant planet and wondering what the view would be like looking up at the planet dominating the sky through a break in the clouds. The challenge is always in trying to depict Jovian-like clouds and bands on the imaginary gas giant planet, evoking our familiar Jupiter and Saturn, while not exactly copying their well-known cloud features. Here, I’ve combined some aspects of both Jupiter’s and Venus’ cloud features for the planet itself.” – Dan Durda
