TRIBUTE TO A COLORFUL ASTRONAUT!
This fantastic poster was printed by The Boeing Company to announce the July 23, 2000 opening of Rendezvous in Space: A Tribute to Pete Conrad, a permanent exhibit at The Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington.
The mostly-monochrome image on the poster shows a space-suited Conrad posing with Revo sunglasses for a print ad, c. 1988. The only color in this image is the iridescent orange of the sunglasses; a signature color caused by the multiple, thin coatings applied to the glasses to stop UV and IR radiation. This image was later modified for the cover of Rocket Man, Pete’s biography written by his second wife, Nancy.
In keeping with Pete’s personality and the color theme of the image, his personal motto, “If you can’t be good, be colorful”, is printed in orange, followed by his pre-printed signature.
Unsigned.
