Human Exploration of Phobos – On the Rim of Limtoc

$200.00$370.00

Astronauts examine a giant boulder on the rim of Limtoc Crater inside Stickney Crater on Mars’ dark inner moon, Phobos.

Dr Lee has been advocating human missions to Mars’ moons, Phobos and Deimos, as precursor destinations in the human exploration of Mars. He participated in early NASA studies of possible human missions to these small bodies, and organized the first international conferences on the exploration of the Martian moons.

This artwork depicts a concept Space Exploration Vehicle (SEV) “docked” on Phobos, and astronauts using jetpacks similar to NASA’s Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU) to venture out across this low gravity world. Phobos is so close to Mars that the planet would appear 6,400 times larger than our own Moon as seen from Earth…

Image is of same size as original oil on board (15 x 16 inches).

Artist Proof edition of only 10. Signed and numbered.
