Apollo Soyuz

$295.00$575.00

This print and its companion Mercury Seven were published to inaugurate and finance the Mercury Seven Foundation, a non-profit national scholarship fund formed by the Mercury astronauts for promising young students in science and technology. Each archival-quality print is hand signed by the astronauts, sequentially numbered and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

In 1975, the historic first linkup of American and Soviet spacecraft took place between an Apollo capsule (18 months after the final moon landing) and a Soviet Soyuz. The crews included the legendary Alexei Leonov, the first man to walk in space, and the late Donald “Deke” Slayton, making his first and only flight, despite being chosen as one of the original Mercury 7 astronauts. Slayton was the Chief Astronaut, grounded because of a medical problem, but requalified for this historic mission. Signatures in pencil of Commander Thomas Stafford, Deke Slayton(d. 1993), and Soviet crewmen Leonov and Valery Kubasov (d. 2014).

The print has minor thumb dents in the black. Tough to see.
