James “Jim” Benson Irwin was lunar module pilot for Apollo 15. He and mission commander Dave Scott explored Hadley Rille, and were the first to use the lunar roving vehicle. Apollo 15 was the first “J” mission, extending the reach and duration on the Moon, and had a greater focus on science than earlier missions.
