Don was a lunar cartographer for the U.S. Geological Survey. One of the early “luna incognita” unmapped areas was the lunar south polar region. As many of the crater bottoms are in perpetual shadow, this area is hoped to contain water ice. Don’s view shows the “upside down” Earth, which will always appear in the same spot in the sky, only going through phases.
