Don’t You Hear My Call?

$52.00$202.00

In this low-key piece, three vintage Russian High Altitude helmets stand in a line, while a small butterfly (called a Mitchell’s Satyr) sits perched on the middle helmet’s hose. The species is one of the most endangered butterflies in the world. One of its few habitats is in Indiana, and it was placed on the endangered species list in 1992; which is the same place and year that the artist was born. The name of the piece comes from Queen’s iconic song “39.” Inspired by guitarist Brian May’s studies in Astrophysics, the song is about an astronaut who travels to a distant place at near the speed of light, only to return to a home that has passed him by.
