A collector’s dream! This outstanding set of memorabilia from a two-day Apollo 11 20th Anniversary celebration at the National Air & Space Museum was collected by James Dean at the event.
The July 19 invitation was signed by Alexei Leonov while there. The July 20 First Day of Issue card was signed by designer Chris Calle. The July 20 program was signed by artist Paul Calle, and personalized “To Rita and Jim (Dean)…with warm regards-“. A souvenir pin, July 20 invitation, and second program (unsigned) complete the set. Also includes a New York Times newspaper clipping showing the unveiling of Chris’ stamp.
James Dean was the NASA director of films, publications, and television, and then the Director of the Fine Arts Program at NASA from 1961 to 1974. He then became the Curator of Art at the National Air and Space Museum.
