Apollo 13’s mission commander (CDR) James Lovell, working on some checklists in the “lifeboat” Lunar Module (LM) Aquarius, checks his Omega wristwatch for the time. The LM was designed to support two crew members for several hours during the lunar landing and return to lunar orbit, but ended up keeping all three crew members alive for several days after an explosion in the spacecraft’s Service Module (SM) crippled the crew’s life-support systems in the Command Module (CM) Odyssey, while on the way to the Moon.
